Joseph Hoeffel
Joseph Hoeffel, JD, serves as Vice Chair of the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Commissioners. His top priorities are economic development in older communities, traffic and planning improvements, and better delivery of human services. During his prior terms as Commissioner he fought for open space preservation, community revitalization and reforms of patronage and pay-to-play abuses in the courthouse.
Previously Mr. Hoeffel served as Deputy Secretary of International Business Development for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, responsible for implementing the Governor's World Trade PA initiative to expand export for Pennsylvania businesses, attract new foreign investment and promote the use of Pennsylvania's ports and improve the state's global competitiveness.
From 1999-2004 Mr. Hoeffel served 3 terms in the US Congress representing Pennsylvania's 13th District. He was a member of House Committees on International Relations, Budget, Science, and Transportation and Infrastructure. He twice served as US representative to the annual parliamentary assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. From 1977-1984 he served 4 terms as a Pennsylvania State Representative, representing the Abington area. He worked on budget and government reform, mass transit, economic development and programs for seniors.
Mr. Hoeffel received a BA from Boston University and a JD from Temple University School of Law.
