Richard Alonzo
Visit website Richard Alonzo, MA, is the Superintendent of Local District 4 of the Los Angeles Unified School District, serving 93 schools and over 87,000 students and their families living in the communities in the northeast portion adjacent to downtown Los Angeles. Superintendent Alonzo oversees the instructional program for Kindergarten through 12th grade students and is supervising the design and curricular development of 27 schools under construction in his district. In addition to his administrative responsibilities in District 4 he is an active teacher and has been a lecturer and presenter at many American colleges and universities.
Before assuming the Superintendency in District 4 Mr. Alonzo served in other Los Angeles districts as Superintendent and Principal, overseeing academic and administrative programs and providing leadership in the areas of school reform, curriculum and instruction, parent/community partnerships, and data analysis. He also has served as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University, National University, California State University-Los Angeles, California State University-Northridge, and Otis/Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles.
Mr. Alonzo earned his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Pepperdine University. He serves on a number of state and local advisory boards and in 2001 was honored by California State University-Los Angeles as Distinguished Educator of the Year; a scholarship is awarded in his name to a deserving student in the Charter College of Education.
