Nicole Lurie
Visit website Nicole Lurie, MD, is a Senior Natural Scientist and Co-Director for Public Health at the Center for Domestic and International Health Security at RAND. She specializes in the field of health services, primarily in the areas of access to and quality of care, managed care, mental health, prevention and health disparities. Currently she is defining a prioritized research agenda for preparedness and response activities and outlining approaches to better link the public health and health care delivery system.
Before coming to RAND Dr. Lurie was Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Minnesota and most recently Medical Advisor to the Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Health. From 1998-2001 she served as Assistant Secretary of Health at the US Department of Health and Human Services. As Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Health at HHS she had line responsibility for the Office of Emergency Preparedness, which included development of emergency response plans at state and local levels.
Dr. Lurie holds an MD from the University of Pennsylvania and MSPH from the University of California, Los Angeles.
